Because of time & laborconstraints we are not actively adding serial numbers to the database at thistime. We do have copies of the old manual Steinberger production logs, andlater this year we'll be adding the first few instruments produced eachmonth. This should give the casual owner the ability to estimate whentheir instrument was produced.
Gibson again has possession of the originalserial number logs. If you wish to verify the date yours was originallyinvoiced, please contact Gibson customer support. We do hope to one dayhave all the numbers online, but admittedly must spend our hobby time on othermore productive things for the site. Since Gibson has assured us they willanswer Steinberger serial number requests, for now that should suffice.

Original NY made (Brooklyn orNewburgh) L series instruments have up to a 4 digit number. LaterNashville / post-Newburgh manufactured L's are designated by a 'T' added to thebeginning. These are stamped into the bridge end of the body.
Bolt-on neck numbers are stampedinto the underside of the neck near the heel. This mark also includes thewords 'STEINBERGER USA'. The Newburgh stamped numbers start with'N's, in the case of Nashville models a 'TN'. Because the necks can be removedfrom the bolt-on models it's not unusual to see them show up on earlier/laterfactory units or even custom aftermarket bodies. We've noted thiswhen known. The new MusicYo numbers have dropped the letters and startwith number '20000'
Prototype numbers run the gamut. Because most were not destined for retail sale they did not get proper orstamped serial #'s . This does not necessarily diminish their authenticity orcollectibility. The one exception to this are the 'P-'numbered GL's. Technically they are not prototypes. They werepart of an advanced run of about a hundred instruments that were rushed intoproduction. Klein-bodied GK'shave two serial numbers: the Steinberger neck number (Nxxxx) and a Klein one onthe neck plate. If the official Steinberger serial number could not bedetermined we've listed the Klein one instead. Know that for the firstrun of Klein's the bodies were shipped to the Newburgh plant and assembledthere. As orders and production demands at Steinberger Sound increased, all assembly for the GK's was handed over to Klein directly and the appropriateparts were shipped there. For simplicity we list all GK guitars as CAmade. Best guess is maybe about 300 GK's were produced.

Note that the one-piece graphiteL seriesSteinbergers have one numbering scheme, and the bolt-ons another. Thoughduplicates do not show on the list, if there's a #485 L2 there also should be abolt-on with #N0485. We just don't have a large enough sample to see itoccur yet. It's also possible that later in production the numbers wereunique, but initial reports are the two separate serial number schemes were notcoordinated. This would explain why the last L's made were in theT9000 range whereas the graphite neck models were in the TN16000's.
See the NamingConventions page to determine what the specific model letters and numbersindicate.
Hacks para samp. Since the list has gotten so bigwe've now split the pages into two for faster loading: one for the all graphiteL's and another for all of the bolt-on models. The files are verybasic HTML; we will be moving toan ASP based searchable database shortly.

Anylogic 7. This list is by no means complete (probably 10% of all instruments, maybe less), but it may at least give you an idea of the year your Steinie has been built. Sometimes it may also show you what your Steinie once has been. We label it as 'v1.5', because it's based on the Steinberger World list, just continued and updated.
If you want to contribute to this list, just send us an e-mail. It's not necessary to tell us features that have been stock (e.g. the H-S-S configuration of a GM-4), but we're of course interested in things that are different or remarkable in any way, history, dates, etc. Photos are nice (especially if they are made for the gallery), but not required. If you are not sure about the exact type you own, just describe it as good as possible, in this case better with photos.

As this list is the result of searching the web, asking owners, and watching several online auction platforms, information may be wrong and/or incomplete. But it's the best we can do without further sources. We have decided to stick with the HTML table format. First, it is simple to create and update. Next, it's useless to expect any cool database features like 'show me all GMs', with only a fraction of all instruments being listed. And finally, the internet has become faster, it shouldn't be a problem to load or scroll through the page.
